Sullivans Island Homes for Sale

It is a short drive to downtown and North Charleston from Interstate I26. The town has a long military history of protecting the harbor from invaders. The remains of Fort Moultrie and the cannons that fired during the Civil War remain on the island as a reminder of the island’s history.  Tours or Fort Moultrie are available, so don’t miss visiting this historical landmark. In 1989 the strongest hurricane on record to ever hit South Carolina made landfall on Sullivan’s Island. Hurricane Hugo damaged nearly every building on the island and severely damaged the Ben Sawyer bridge, the island’s only bridge to and from the mainland. With a lot of heart and hard work from the Sullivan’s Island residents, the town re-emerged and residents rebuilt their homes to once again enjoy South Carolina coastal living. The Ben Sawyer bridge was rehabilitated in the summer of 2010, and in 1993 the Isle of Palms connector bridge was built which provided another main road to and from the island. It is a short drive to Mt. Pleasant from one of these bridges to access shopping, dining, and any other necessity you might need.
