Dewees Island Homes for Sale
Dewees Island, SC is a private island dedicated to environmental preservation. This 1,206 acre barrier island is located just eleven miles north of historic Charleston, SC. It is accessible only by ferry. In 1991, the Dewees Island Project began under the supervision of John Knott, the chief executive and designer of the Island Preservation Partnership. Restricted by an island covenant, the maximum number of homesites available for sale was limited to 150. 65% of the island has been permanently preserved for wildlife conservation. When all of the homesites have been developed, an amazing 95% of the island will remain undisturbed. Year-round education opportunities and stewardship programs are offered to residents of all ages by a full time environmental educator in residence. Living in harmony with nature is the way of life on unspoiled Dewees Island.
